It may be a pessimistic view of humanity, b...James,
It may be a pessimistic view of humanity, but the question is whether or not it is right. You are asking people to put their trust in "man". You had better have a reason to back it up.

Of course the main problem with your comment is the idea that man created religion, which is what you are saying when you state "man has used religion as a way to control man." Of course the origin of that thinking is Karl Marx himself with "religion is the opiate of the people", and has been subscribed to by many people since then. It is easy to see why you want to put your faith in man because it appears man is all there is for you. I hope that is incorrect, but if it is one wonders what role religion can play for you?

You list some worthy goals such as curing illnesses, aiding the poor and protecting the planet. All of which the liberal "Faith in man" point of view has failed to do and indeed done the exact opposite. Just take a look at all of our foriegn aid to places like Haiti and see if it has done any raising people out of poverty. Or look at raising the minimum wage and the corresponding rise in unemployment of teenagers (over 50%) and see if it has actually helped anything. Faith in man is putting faith in the finite, the short-sided, and the fallen. Such a practice leads down roads no man should dare to tred.Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10422257306176024118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9387707.post-67777594967368580852010-05-02T16:39:21.025-05:002010-05-02T16:39:21.025-05:00What a horrible, pessimistic view of humanity. It...What a horrible, pessimistic view of humanity. It's interesting how a majority of scientist, environmentalist and liberals are atheist. In my view, these people are trying to make a better world for us to live in. Finding a way to cure our illnesses and give us longer lives. Protecting our lands so our children can enjoy them. And providing aid to the poor so to improve their lives. While you may disagree with the methods they use, you should never question their motives. These people view humanity as good and worth preserving. The past two centuries man has used religion as a way to control man. Those days are coming to an end. Maybe it's time we put more trust in man, instead of suppressing it with religion.Jamesnoreply@blogger.com
